Flying Down to Rio – yes, in Rio June 2012!
Delighted to announce that Flying Down to Rio will be, er, flying down to Rio de Janeiro this June – 14 June 2012, to be exact. Dorothy's Shoes have been invited to appear at the Entre_Lugares festival at Sergio Porto theatre, twinned with the Chelsea Theatre London (where the show premiered November 2011 as part of the Sacred season).
Flying Down to Rio will be the opening show of the festival, which will also feature Ant Hampton from Rotozaza, Action Hero, and Ron Athey – alongside a whole swathe of Brazilian artists. All the UK contingent are supported by the British Council and are coming to Brazil as a cultural exchange, in collaboration with Sacred at Chelsea Theatre who are supporting the project.

Flying Down to Rio at Sacred Festival, Chelsea Theatre
Experience Fred and Ginger ‘Doing the Carioca’, and indulge your secret love of samba-kitsch at the Copacabana with Barry Manilow. Come to a carnival in a closet, visit the Michael Jackson shrine, and explore your fantasy self at the pound-store fancy dress stall.Expect the vintage sounds of the dancehalls of Rio, sugar-cane caipirinhas, and plenty of opportunities to join the dance.
Flying Down to Rio is an idiosyncratic response to a real and imagined Rio, as filtered through the lens of Hollywood film and popular culture. An interactive performance & installation piece in various spaces at Chelsea Theatre over two hours – with a late-night license and South American cocktails on sale! Performed by Dorothy Max Prior and Matthew Blacklock, with additional artistic input from Isobel Smith, Foz Foster, Rosie Powell, and Natasha Nixon. Developed with in-kind support from Aurelius Arts and The Basement Brighton.
Love Dorothy Max xx
